Rickie Weeks living grandaddy's dream

Rickie Weeks is playing Major League Baseball for the Milwaukee Brewers.  Back in the 1940s his grandfather, Victor, played in the Negro Leagues when Major League Baseball had yet to integrate.  His grandaddy just wanted to play ball and have the opportunity to show he could compete against anybody.  In the late 40s people like Jackie Robinson and Larry Doby went on to integrate the game and the Negro Leagues folded up.  However, Rickie is doing his grandfather proud by doing what he wanted to do as a young adult and that is to just play ball.  The Milwaukee Brewers probably have more African American players than any team in all of MLB with Rickie Weeks (2B), Bill Hall, (3B), Prince Fielder (1B), Mike Cameron (CF) and reserver OF Tony Gwynn Jr.  All of them have people like Victor Weeks to thank for the opportunity to play the game they love.

Time to put up or shut up for Rickie Weeks

When the Brewers brought up their crop of young players like Prince Fielder, JJ Hardy, Corey Hart, Rickie Weeks etc I was most high on Rickie Weeks.  He has not performed up to my expectations mostly due to various injuries.  He has a season ending injury in 2006 and while he played in 2007, he did so knowing full well it might not fully heal to towards the end of 2007 or maybe into the offseason prepping for 2008.  He started out really rocky in 2007 and after it seemed his wrist fully healed he went on an absolute tear the last two months of the 2007 season.  He right now is penciled in as our leadoff hitter in 2008.  I foresee a monster year out of him now that he is fully healthy.  There are also many more questions about the 2008 Brewers like their fifth starter, if Gagne can regain his form as an elite closer or at least into being a serviceable one once again, who plays Centerfield the first 25 games while Mike Cameron is suspended, how Jason Kendall handles the staff etc. which I will adress in due time.
